This is a list of craftspeople who have submitted our application form. Please note that the list is open to any business that submits the required information. This listing is provided as a courtesy to local contractors and potential customers. Companies and individuals listed here are NOT endorsed or vetted by LPA. If the business provides financial support to LPA through annual membership, it is indicated on their listing.
Before hiring a contractor, we highly recommend that you:
1) Request and check references, including references from individuals currently working with these craftspeople.
2) Check the contractor’s city license status at https://lawrenceks.org/pds/contractor-license-search/. Contractors who are required to hold a city license include general, building and residential contractors, framing, concrete, roofing, mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, fireplace and energy conservation inspectors and companies. Some craftspeople are not required to hold a license, including those working as a painter, tile setter or “handyperson.” If you are not certain if a license is needed, call the City of Lawrence: (785) 832-7700.

Skills related to working with historic buildings: In 2014, my wife and I purchased a historic home in East Lawrence. Because it had been a rental for many years, we immediately contacted Mike Meyers to draw up plans to keep the character of the home and neighborhood in tact while creating an updated family home. During this process, we worked with the Historic Resource Commission to ensure the scale and scope of the project was appropriate based on their guidelines. Additionally, with Mike's help, we applied for historic tax credits through the state of Kansas. As a result, I am very familiar with the expectations of historic properties in Lawrence and the process for renovating historic homes while preserving the character and charm of the original structure.
Since my experience with my own home, Mike and I have partnered on several home renovation projects in East Lawrence, many of which have also gone through the Historic Resource Commission approval process. I appreciate the fact that I can contribute to and invest in my community, helping people create houses they love that meet the needs of their family and preserve the integrity of the structures that make Lawrence unique.
