Stop by the Watkins Museum (1047 Massachusetts St.) anytime from 6 to 8 p.m. as the Lawrence Preservation Alliance joins our friends at the Museum for a Final Fridays presentation. The focus will be the old Holland-style windmill that stood near the intersection of 9th Street and Emery Road from 1864 until 1905, when it was destroyed by fire.
The Watkins Museum staff will display windmill artifacts from their collection, and Allen Wiechert, LPA member and University Architect at KU, will be on hand to talk about the windmill and show an old architectural scaled drawing of the structure. Dennis Brown and Mike Goans from the LPA Board will talk about Turnhalle and all things LPA. And, keeping with the natural energy theme of the evening, a representative from Cromwell Solar will be available to talk about the best ways to install solar panels on historic properties. We hope to see you there!
