  • Tour The Outlook: Explore the garden and grand rooms of the first floor of this Neoclassical estate, designed by renowned architect W.J. Mitchell in 1912. Learn about the home's fascinating history and architectural details.

  • Attend a  presentation from University Architect & Director Facilities Planning and Development, Mark Reiske: Experience a fascinating presentation by Mark Reiske, University Architect & Director Facilities Planning and Development, who will delve deeper into the design, history and significance of The Outlook.

About The Outlook:

Originally built in 1912 by Lawrence banker Jabez B. Watkins (1845-1921), for himself and his wife, Elizabeth Miller Watkins, The Outlook is a stunning 26-room mansion that has served as the official residence of the University of Kansas Chancellor since 1939. The home boasts a grand three-story design with a symmetrical facade, featuring a semi-circular porch with ionic columns, beautiful oriel windows, and a widow's walk offering panoramic views.
