LPA Announces 2025 Annual Meeting
/The LPA Annual Meeting of members will take place on Sunday, October 26, at 1:30 PM at the Union Pacific Depot in North Lawrence. This free event will begin with a short business meeting, followed by a program to honor two retired board members who have given years of effective service to this organization as executive officers and co-treasurers.
During the meeting, we will hear updates regarding the historic survey now wrapping up of the NAACP Founders’ Homes in 1921, partially funded and led by LPA. Also, we will hear about LPA’s work to coordinate and lead public engagement meetings as part of the University Place historic survey and receive an update on initial collaborative efforts to create a nomination to the Register of Historic Kansas Places for Hobbs Park Municipal Stadium in East Lawrence, to be followed by commissioning a Historic Structures Report. The LPA Board has voted to support this effort with a grant of $2,500.
The program that follows will feature Dale Slusser and Ernie Eck receiving LPA Preservation Achievement Awards for outstanding preservation work both as LPA board members and beyond. The board is experimenting a bit this year with the presentation of this prestigious program, including the move of the biennial spring event to a Saturday morning from a typical Thursday evening format. Now we want to explore pairing it with the Annual Meeting, and what better way than to honor two people who have left an indelible imprint on LPA through years of dedicated board work. Mark your calendars and watch your email and LPA social media for much more info to come.
