LPA Announces 2026 Annual Meeting

Join the Lawrence Preservation Alliance for our Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 17th, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM at St. Luke AME Church, 900 New York Street.

This year's meeting carries special meaning. In 2020, LPA members raised $41,000 through our annual membership renewal cycle to help fund restoration of St. Luke AME's stained glass windows and exterior brick walls. For the first time, we're gathering inside this historic sanctuary as guests of Pastor Rachel Williams-Glenn and the St. Luke AME congregation, experiencing firsthand the restored features that member support made possible.

Following a short business meeting, LPA Board member and KU Associate Professor of Architecture Amy Van de Riet will present findings from LPA's recently concluded historic survey documenting homes lived in by the founders of the Lawrence Branch of the NAACP, established in 1921. Additional properties significant to Black history in Lawrence were incorporated as the survey progressed, broadening the scope of what this two-year project uncovered. The survey was funded by LPA and the Kansas State Preservation Office.

As guests arrive, Lawrence musician Ven Bergdall, a pianist known for jazz ensembles and compositions, will perform on the church piano, setting a reflective tone beneath the restored stained glass.

This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
