An LPA project to document properties lived in by the original members of the Lawrence Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in 1921 is expanding its scope. The original phase of work, led by LPA Board member and KU Associate Professor in Architecture Amy Van de Riet, is complete, including research, survey work and photography for the 35 properties identified within the Lawrence city limits. The study shows that 20 of those structures no longer exist, and of the 15 that do, seven are likely to be eligible for some level of historic listing.
Lawrence Preservation Alliance has donated $2,500 to the Municipal Stadium at Hobbs Park Legacy Project. This fund was created to support the writing of a nomination of the old 1947 baseball park at 11th and Delaware Street to both the Register of Historic Kansas Places and the National Register of Historic Places. LPA joins other groups such as the East Lawrence Neighborhood Association, the Watkins Museum of History, the Shelley Miller Trust, Kaw Valley Kickball League, Hernly Associates, Lawrence Parks, Recreation and Culture Department and supporters to preserve the historic ballpark.

The Rhody Delahanty House, located at 1100-1106 Rhode Island Street in Lawrence, Kansas, is a shining example of successful preservation efforts. The house is part of the North Rhode Island Street Historic Residential District and has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. Over the years, the property fell into severe disrepair, but a determined group of individuals, including Stan and Joni Hernly, took on the monumental task of saving it from demolition.
In collaboration with its owners, Brad and Carrie Mayhew, the Lawrence Preservation Alliance is excited to invite you to an Old Housewarming at the historic Judge Nelson T.
